Mini LED backlight technology background and architecture principle

 

Mini LED backlight displays have a local dimming function, which greatly improves the contrast effect and is similar to that of OLED displays.

 

The difference between Mini LED backlight modules and traditional LED backlight modules comes from the size and number of LEDs.

The demand for thinning direct-type backlights, the increase in the number of LEDs used, and the high difficulty of the packaging process have led to the current problems of high unit prices, low yields, and Halo Effects for Mini LED backlight products.

However, after 2021, through the development of new LED packaging technologies, these problems have gradually been improved, which has also brought new opportunities for backlight industry applications.

Today Sunoptics proposed a new packaging design(POB Gen.2), which directly combines the molding lens with the LED lead-frame.

These design own several advantages,

 

1. Reduce the mixed optical path (Thinckness)  to OD5 and OD2.5

2. Reduce the loss of the optical interface,

3. Optimize the OP Ratio(OD / Ptich) to 1:4 , Optimize the LED used numbers

4. Change the light pattern into a rectangular shape to reduce the Halo effect,

5. Reduce the assembly cost of SMT process
